Our mission is to make the world a safer place by equipping buildings with Firefighter Air Replenishment Systems (FARS).
As cities continue to grow in height and density, and structures become taller, larger, and more complex, FARS mitigates the demands placed on local fire departments to effectively defend these structures. We believe all large structures of the future will be equipped with FARS, and we are excited to lead the way.
RescueAir was founded by Anthony Turiello in 1993. It was born from the ashes of one of the most devastating high-rise fires in California history, the First Interstate Bank building fire. After studying the post-incident reports, Turiello identified the process of shuttling air bottles up and down the stairs during emergency operations as a major strain on manpower, a serious threat to the safety of the firefighters, and a major obstacle to efficiently fighting the fire. He realized there was a better way.
Turiello envisioned a building-installed air standpipe system. Just as water standpipes solved the problem of water delivery in large buildings and eliminated the need for hand buckets, Turiello reasoned that a standpipe for air could be designed and installed in large buildings to deliver air replenishment. This would eliminate the need for an air bottle brigade tasked with hand-delivering replacement air bottles.
His innovation, FARS, is a faster, safer, and more reliable method for the delivery of life-sustaining air. Today the team at RescueAir collaborates with leaders of the fire service to continually refine our product to meet the unique needs of each jurisdiction and structure type. We also work closely with industry-leading engineers, designers, consultants, construction companies, and technical specialists working across every element of today’s environment.
